Security

Security should make the hire desk boring

A practical overview of the controls and boundaries that matter when bookings, customer records and equipment history move into one system.

Product information only — not a certification or a promise of compliance with every security framework.

The useful parts of security

Good security is not a badge on a sales page. It is knowing who can do what, where the data lives and how to leave with it.

  • Account access

Use individual users and roles so the person taking a payment does not automatically get every management permission.

  • Operational separation

Keep bookings, inventory, deposits, repairs and payments connected to the rental record instead of passing sensitive details through loose spreadsheets.

  • Data portability

Export your data when you need to review it, move systems or maintain your own records. No lock-in should be a security control.

  • Clear boundaries

The website does not pretend that software alone replaces access reviews, staff training, backups or your own legal and security duties.

A transparent security overview

What this page covers

Rent in Hand is software for equipment hire and rental operations. Depending on how you configure it, an account can contain customer details, rental agreements, equipment records, deposits, payments, repair notes and staff activity.

The right setup starts with the smallest useful set of fields, named user accounts, sensible permissions and a process for removing access when somebody leaves. Keep payment-card data in your payment provider unless the current product documentation explicitly says otherwise.

What we do not claim

We do not publish a SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification on this page, and we do not claim that using Rent in Hand automatically makes a business secure or compliant. We also do not publish an uptime SLA, penetration-test report or complete subprocessor register here. If your procurement process requires any of those documents, ask us before you move production data.

For an internal review

  • List the people and systems that need access, then give each person only the permissions needed for the job.
  • Decide which customer and rental fields you really need, how long you keep them and who can export them.
  • Review access after staff changes and keep your own operational backups where the business requires them.
  • Use the current privacy policy and commercial terms alongside a written review of your own obligations.

Security questions

Does Rent in Hand have a security certification?

This page does not claim SOC 2, ISO 27001 or another independent certification. Ask us for the current security and hosting information that is relevant to your procurement process.
