Rentman alternative
A Rentman alternative for hiring out tools, not staging shows
Rentman is built for events and AV, with crew and production planning at its centre. If your customers walk in for a breaker or a scaffold tower, most of that is weight you pay for and never use.

Six things worth comparing
These two products serve different trades. The comparison is less about who is better and more about which trade you are in.
-
Who it is built for
Rentman is strongest in event and AV rental: productions, crews, vehicles and gear moving together. If that describes your work, that focus is worth paying for.
-
How the bill adds up
Rentman starts around €39 and adds roughly €14–24 per user per module, so cost climbs with team size and with each module you switch on. Our plans are $8, $20 and $35 with users included.
-
Crew and transport planning
Rentman has it, we do not. We cover staff shifts, roles and permissions on the hire desk, but there is no crew rostering or vehicle planning for productions.
-
Repair workshop
Tool and plant hire breaks things. Repair jobs, parts, cost per item and downtime are in our core product, and an item under repair leaves the availability calendar automatically.
-
Deposits and damage
Deposits held, part-returned or kept against damage, with handover and return photos on the contract. Construction hire lives on this; event hire often does not need it.
-
The counter and the yard
Our mobile app is built for handover: scan the item, photograph its condition, capture a signature, take the payment. Rentman's strength sits earlier, in planning the job.
Where we are stronger
Counter hire, deposits and things that come back broken
Tool, plant, garden and leisure hire have a different rhythm from an event build. Kit goes out to strangers, comes back muddy, and someone has to decide what to take out of the deposit. That path — handover, condition photos, damage, repair, back on the shelf — is what our product is shaped around.
- Repair workshop with parts, cost and downtime per item
- Deposits tracked end to end, with photo evidence on the contract
- Users included in the plan instead of billed per person, per module
- Multi-location, REST API and booking widget with no extra fee
Where Rentman wins
When Rentman is clearly the right tool
If your business is production rental — you send crew and vans out with the gear and plan jobs weeks ahead — Rentman does things we simply do not do. We would rather say so than sell you a system you will fight with by the second month.
- You roster crew and freelancers against jobs
- You plan transport and logistics around productions
- You quote complex event packages with sub-hire
- Your team already works in event workflows and terminology
Frequently asked questions
Can I run event rental on Rent in Hand?
Yes, plenty of customers hire out AV, staging and party equipment with us. What you will not find is crew rostering or transport planning, so if those drive your week, Rentman fits better.
Is the per-user pricing really that different?
It changes shape rather than just size. Our Start plan covers one user, Business covers five and Pro is unlimited, all at the plan price, so adding a counter assistant does not change the invoice.
What if I need both crew planning and a repair workshop?
Then neither product covers you fully today. Decide which half costs you more money when it goes wrong, and be honest that the other half will live in a spreadsheet for now.
Do you handle sub-hire from other companies?
You can hold items you do not own in your catalogue and hire them out, with cost tracked against the order. It is simpler than a dedicated event sub-hire workflow.
How do I tell which one suits me?
Take the last ten jobs you did. If most of them involved sending people and vehicles, look at Rentman. If most were a customer collecting kit and bringing it back, try us for seven days.
Test it on the way the gear actually comes back
